Fitness Tracker

More of a celebratory gift these days… but also sometimes acts as a motivational tool… or a sleep tracker. :] Whatever it is… we have phases and different uses for them along the way.

Fall/Winter’2012: the purchase of my first “fitness tracker” and it was the Nike fuel band(s). They were great until… more on that later.

Anyway, I got the black one first. Something didn’t work out so well with it. Ended up having to go to the Nike Store for a return/exchange situation and got the clear band afterwards. It was cute… especially with the lights and the celebratory GOAL message when the goal was reached.

At the same time, I was taking 2 PE classes: 1 weight-training and 1… running/stretching/aerobic’ish or whatever it was (conditioning?). It was back to back, twice a week, for 2 hours of exercising. In my mind, 1 was intense and the other was a little more chill. There were days where… we were very sore. Made it through. Phew. Also wore a pair of Skechers shape-ups during this time (supposedly didn’t work, but that was beside the point. Was definitely put to use on my end!). So. I was very motivated! And the ability to track the streak? Great. Not sure what fuel points were, but I definitely, tried to earn those 3000 fuel points on a daily basis, and wanted to see how long I could keep it up during that 1st month. Would even go to our next door gym just to earn those last 300 fuel points within the last 10-15 minutes of the day.

The whole idea worked until they made an update that made it too easy to earn the fuel points and it just didn’t make sense to me anymore. The way the original 3000 had to be earned was more beneficial for me. Couldn’t just sit on your butt all day and expect it to reach the goal! Believe me, there were plenty of lazy days. -_-!

We just didn’t have another motivational tool for a very long time after that.

04’2015: purchased myself an early 1 year anniversary gift at my 1st job — the stainless steel Apple Watch Series 1. Can’t recall if I was notified of my promotion prior to the purchase or after the purchase, but either way, it was definitely for making it through the 1 year. Every year was a milestone worth celebrating. I am thinking that it is following a promotion due to the fact that I chose to invest in the stainless steel option. It was a different time in my life and celebrating every accomplishment made it all worthwhile.

The watch ended up taking breaks and lasted through my 5th job up until Mar of 2020. It still works, actually. Just doesn’t last through a day. Plus, the lack of a sleep tracker made it so I only would wear it during the day for work and would sometimes charge it during my drive to work.

04’2017: decided to buy a purple Fitbit Charge 2 for tracking my steps (needed to step up my daily exercising with all the weight gain) and lack of/change in sleep during pregnancy. Worked amazingly well for the remainder of the pregnancy and post-pregnancy until the band fell apart.

Tried to replace it with non-Fitbit branded bands and that didn’t work out so well. It ended up being semi-retired and I returned to using my Apple Watch.

Worked great with tracking my sometimes 30000 steps during our 6 week child-bonding trip around Southeast Asia in 2018. <3

07/27/21: received my Apple Watch Series 6 today! As a… 6th job celebratory gift to myself (meeting my 6 years of work salary goal~ and just obtaining a job that I enjoy so far) as well as… a company fitness/wellness reimbursable item. Honestly, I was considering one anyway! Some sort of gift to myself. Just ended up getting one sooner due to the reimbursable nature of it. :] My second Apple Watch. Shall be used for sleep tracking (as though I need this now but can’t hurt to have and have the ability to use it if I choose to), step tracking, and possibly… eventual exercise tracking. What else can it do? I don’t know. I got the blue one instead of another stainless or titanium due to its previous lifespan. I did consider it.

We’ll wait and see what journeys will come about with this one. :]

09/15/21: 2 months in… and I have finally switched out the blue sports band that I picked out for my watch for a braided solo loop band. Got the charcoal one today. So far so good! It stays put. Currently considering the regular solo loop… with a few new colors that came out recently. So… we are still debating which color to pick up for regular wear and probably just switching to this braided one for days out and about. Pretty much leaning towards the chalk pink since the dark cherry seems alike it may not be purple.
